While Norman SmartDrape™ shades are fully custom window treatments, the track widths are only available in set sizes, in 4-inch increments. That’s because the sheer portion of each SmartDrape vane is exactly 4 inches, and Norman designed the system so that every vane is always perfectly and consistently spaced.
Because track sizes come in specific increments, choosing the right size is crucial to achieving the look and function you want. As a rule of thumb, US Verticals recommends a minimum overlap of 6″ per side on any door or window—but many homeowners prefer more overlap for aesthetic reasons, better light control, or added privacy.
For example: what if you want a center-opening (split stack) SmartDrape, but you also want the fabric to fully clear the doorway when open? Before this calculator, you’d need to work through those calculations by hand. We hope this calculator will save you time and give you a clear view of exactly how your SmartDrape will look. (Yes, that is a SmartDrape pun!)
When using the calculator, you will see certain terms used, here are their definitions:
Clear opening is the actual open space you have left when the SmartDrape is fully drawn open. It is the width that remains clear for walking through, reaching a door handle, or preserving your view, after the stacked material is accounted for.
Track width is the full width of the SmartDrape rail from end to end. When you enter a track width, the calculator shows how much clear opening you will actually have when the SmartDrape is fully drawn open.
Vane Stack is width of the stack of vanes from the end of the track to the final vane in the stack, when the SmartDrape is fully open. Pay special attention on split stacks or center opening tracks, since the vane stack will likely be displayed as “Per Side” or “Per Track”, since there are two separate vane stacks in that configuration.
Choose your configuration, then either select an available track size or enter the clear opening you need.
