Plantation Shutter Materials: Find Your Perfect Match

Plantation shutters can be made from a variety of materials, and sometimes even a combination of materials. So how do you know which shutters you should choose?

In Central Florida, we tend to recommend composite shutters for most standard square windows because of their strength, high tolerance for humidity, colorfastness, and lower cost. So why would anyone choose wood shutters over composite shutters if composite shutters are so great? Wood shutters are lighter in weight and made from even more rigid materials, which allows them to be built taller and wider than composite shutters. Wood shutters can also be milled into nearly any shape you can imagine, making them a great option for arched windows, angled windows, and even French doors that need a custom cutout for a door handle.

What about vinyl or PVC shutters? PVC, or polyresin, shutters are the perfect option for wet areas such as showers, steam rooms, or over bathtubs. They are made from waterproof materials, and we use stainless steel hinges and hardware to ensure that our waterproof shutters stay beautiful for years to come.
