Strictly Speaking, Yes, but it is a little bit of a time-consuming process, so while Norman does explain that the SmartDrape is machine washable, we advise our customers that the best way to keep your SmartDrape looking brand new is to periodically vacuum the vanes with a clean brush attachment to remove any dust that may have settled on them. This is a far more realistic way to take care of them. Because of the vane’s U-Shaped design, the dust does not really settle on the vanes too much. Just slightly on the sheer portion of the vane, since that is the part of the vane that is always exposed to the room. We only clean the SmartDrapes in our showroom once a year, and trust us, our SmartDrapes see way more abuse and dust than yours will ever see!

As for the process of washing them,  Norman advises the following steps when cleaning your SmartDrapes:

1. Remove the fabric from the fabric vane clip.
2. Fold the fabrics and place them in a mesh laundry bag.
3. Wash with cold water; gentle cycle.
4. Do not add extra spin after wash. Remove the fabric.
5. Hang the fabrics to line dry, until the fabrics are slightly damped. Fan drying is acceptable.
6. Re-assemble all slats on the rail and leave the vanes open until completely dried.
This will also help avoid wrinkles.

Ironing or steaming:
Use a steam iron on “Nylon” mode (around 200-220ºF). 

Wrinkles:
Wrinkles may occur after washing or long transportation. If your shade is wrinkled, dont worry, just hang the vanes in the sun for a few days to allow some warmth to get into the fabric. This will help minimize the wrinkles, allowing them to disappear naturally. You may choose to steam or iron the fabric panels in accordance with the care instructions above.
